Cornelius REES1

     Cornelius REES was born on 13 September 1859 in Friars Park, Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire.2,3,4,5 He was the son of David REES and Mary RICHARDS.1,4,3
Cornelius REES was baptised on 19 March 1860 at St. Davids Church, Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire.6 In the census of 7 April 1861 at 152 Dame Street, Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire, he was listed as aged 2 born in Carmarthen, the son of David REES.3 In the census of 2 April 1871 at Chequers Alley, Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire, he was listed as aged 12 born in St. Peters Carmarthen, the step-son of Daniel HOWELLS.7 Cornelius married Hannah THOMAS, daughter of David THOMAS and Margaret THOMAS née ?, on 23 December 1880 at The Register Office, Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire. He was a Black Smith, a Bachelor aged 20 residing at 21 Mill Street Carmarthen. His father was listed as David REES, deceased a Labourer. Witnessed by Thomas MORRIS and John PALMER.1 In the census of 3 April 1881 he was a neighbour of his father-in-law, David THOMAS.5 In the census of 5 April 1881 at 39 St. Catherine Street, Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire, Cornelius was listed as aged 21 born in Carmarthen, the Head of Household; a Labourer, living with his wife Hannah.5
In 1882, Cornelius and Hannah lived at 39 St. Catherine Street, Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire.8 Cornelius was a General Labourer between 1882 and 1884 at Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire.8,9 At the time of the birth of their daughter Margaret, on 16 July 1887, Cornelius and Hannah lived at 39 Catherine Street, Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire.10

In the census of 5 April 1891 at 20 Mill Street, Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire, Cornelius was listed as aged 30 born in Carmarthen, the Head of Household; a General Labourer, living in one room with his wife Hannah, and children Dd. John., Wm Hy., Margt., and Sarah. Cornelius and his children were recorded as speaking both Welsh and English, however his wife Hannah spoke only Welsh.11 In the census of 5 April 1891 he was at the same address as his stepfather Daniel HOWELLS, but enumerated as a different household.11 In the census of 31 March 1901 at 13 Deri Terrace, Tylorstown, Ferndale, Glamorganshire, Cornelius was listed as aged 50 born in Carmarthen, the Head of Household; an underground Colliery labourer, living with his wife Hannah, and children Henry, Sarah, and "Maggie". The family all spoke Welsh and English.12 Cornelius was a Miner in 1905.13 In the census of 2 April 1911 at 26 Mill Street, Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire, Cornelius was listed as aged 52 born in Carmarthen, the Head of Household; a Coalminer (Hewer), living with his wife Hannah, and children Henry, and Sarah, The family all spoke both Welsh and English.14
Cornelius died on 7 January 1929 in 37 Mill Street, Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire, at the age of 69.15,16 Cornelius was buried on 10 January 1929 at St. David's, Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire, at the age of 69.17

     Arthur VEASEY was born on 20 February 1873 in Wanstrow, Somerset.2,1,3 He was the son of Sampson VEASEY and Annie White HILLIER.4,1
In the census of 3 April 1881 at High Street, Upton Noble, Somerset, he was listed as aged 8 born in Wanstrow, the son of Sampson VEASY.4
In the census of 5 April 1891 at Wanstrow Hill Farm, Wanstrow, Somerset, he was listed as a Woodman, aged 18 born in Wanstrow, the son of Sampson VEASEY.5
In the census of 31 March 1901 at Horsehill Lane, Batcombe, Somerset, he was listed as a Spar Maker, aged 28 born in Wanstrow, the son of Sampson VEASEY. It was detailed that he was partially paralysed since 13 years of age.6
Arthur died in 1908 in the Upton Noble registration district.7

Leonora Cole née Veasey [1878-1964]
     Leonora VEASEY was born on 18 May 1878 in Wanstrow, Somerset.2,3,4,5 She was the daughter of Sampson VEASEY and Annie White HILLIER.1,2
In the census of 3 April 1881 at High Street, Upton Noble, Somerset, she was listed as aged 2 born in Wanstrow, the daughter of Sampson VEASY.1
In the census of 5 April 1891 at Wanstrow Hill Farm, Wanstrow, Somerset, she was listed as aged 12 born in born in Wanstrow, the daughter of Sampson VEASEY.6 In the census of 31 March 1901 at 78 Bendemere Road, Putney, London, she was listed as a Housemaid, the boarder of John & Julia McLEAN.7,8
On 22 August 1903, Leonora lived at Upton Noble, Batcombe, Somerset.4,9

Leonora married Sydney Francis COLE, son of Thomas Francis COLE and Annie Potter GRANT, on 22 August 1903 at the Parish Church, Batcombe, Somerset; Witnessed by Wilfred John Cox and Mabel Ella Cole.10,11,4,12 Leonora and Sydney Francis had a photograph taken in 1903, it was probably taken to mark the occasion of their marriage.13

In 1905, at the time of the birth of their daughter Elsie Muriel Cole, Leonora and Sydney lived at 17 Huxley Avenue, Cheetham, Lancashire, and he was a Commercial Traveller.14

Probably in 1920, Leonora and Sydney Francis had a family group photograph taken with their five children.15 When their grandson, Geoffrey Howard Barker, was christened in 1943-4, it is likely that the family had a family group photograph taken, showing three generations.16
Leonora died on 18 May 1964 in Lytham St. Annes, Lancashire, at the age of 86.5,17
Her husband, Sydney, died in 1974 in the Fylde registration district.18
