In the census of 7 April 1861 at Gravely Bank Farm, Yeaveley, Derbyshire, she was listed as aged 17 born in Edlaston, a servant of George COOPER, a Farmer of 1116 acres, employing two boys - one of which was Thomas APPLEBY, her future husband.4
Eliza married Thomas APPLEBY, son of William APPLEBY and Elizabeth CHATTERTON, on 20 September 1862 at the Holy Trinity Church, Yeaveley, Derbyshire. She was a Spinster aged 19, a Servant residing in Yeaveley. Her father was listed as John Hough, a Labourer. In the census of 3 April 1881 at Church Broughton, Derbyshire, Charles was listed as aged 22 born in Church Broughton, the Head of Household; an Agricultural Labourer, living with his wife Eliza, and her children Annie, Mary, Hilda M., and Eliza.2
In the census of 5 April 1891 at Cote Bottoms, Sapperton Road, Church Broughton, Derbyshire, Charles was listed as aged 33 born in Church Broughton, the Head of Household; a Farm Labourer, living with his wife Eliza, and her daughter Eliza APPLEBY, and their children Betsy, Thomas, and Henry.2
In the census of 31 March 1901 at Cote Bottoms, 3 Ashbourne Road, Church Broughton, Derbyshire, Charles was listed as aged 42 born in Church Broughton, the Head of Household; an Ordinary Agricultural Labourer, living with his wife Eliza, and grandson John APPLEBY.5
In the census of 2 April 1911 at Cote Bottoms, Church Broughton, Derbyshire, Charles was listed as aged 40 born in Church Broughton, the Head of Household; a General Labourer, living with his wife Eliza.6
His wife, Eliza, died in September 1918 in Belper, Derbyshire, at the age of 74.3
