Also with them was Mary DEAN, a nurse.³
During World War I, he was a Royal Flying Corps Ace, and in 1918 was awarded the Military Cross "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. In two months he destroyed five enemy machines and one enemy kite balloon."^4,5,6
Francis died on 1 May 1975 at Bridport, Dorset, at age 78.^4,7

Research Note: One interesting point about James' family, which he started in Buffalo, New York is that he named his second daughter Maria, most likely after this younger sister. That Maria is Mel's great grandmother.¹
