James CHANT was born Feb 29, 1865 in Middle Chinnock, Somerset. This was not a leap year. The birth was not registerd until April, so perhaps the date should be March 29.2 He was the son of Elizabeth CHANT.2 In the census of 3 April 1881 at West Chinnock, Somerset, he was listed as the son of Betsey CHANT.2,3 James married Sarah Anna BEST on 27 October 1888.2 James was Mason's labourer in 1904.2 James was a Labourer.1

      Walter James was also known as Walter James DEAS.2 Walter married Caroline Sarah URIDGE, daughter of Thomas URIDGE and Harriet Elizabeth WOND, in 1890 at New Zealand.2 As of 1893, Walter and Caroline lived at Wellington, New Zealand Walter was recorded as a Compositor, and Caroline a married woman.1 As of 1897, Walter lived at Wellington, New Zealand Walter was recorded as a Compositor. Caroline his wife was not recorded.3 Walter died in 1926 at Carterton, New Zealand.4 Walter was buried, together with his wife Walter, in Karori Cemetery, Wellington.5
